Customers Win as FedEx Expands Key Service Partnership with Petronas

KUALA LUMPUR, August 1, 2002 - FedEx Express (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company has announced a major expansion of its service partnership with PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd, including new FedEx drop-off locations at PETRONAS service stations in Penang and the Klang Valley.

Under Phase 2 of the programme, FedEx Authorised Ship Centers (FASCs) will be established at a further twelve PETRONAS Mesra convenience stores beginning 1 August 2002., They include three in Penang at Bayan Lepas, Bukit Mertajam and Jalan Masjid Negeri to give customers greater choice and convenience when sending packages or documents overseas.

The other new FASCs in the Klang Valley are located at PETRONAS Mesra convenience stores in Kg Baru, Batu Caves, Kepong, Cheras, Shah Alam and Jalan Ampang.

In March this year FedEx and PETRONAS announced the opening of 12 FedEx Authorised Ship Centers in the Klang Valley. Today's announcement brings the total number to 24, with plans to expand to 40 locations by the end of the year.

FedEx Malaysia Managing Director, Mr. Ramesh Kumar Singam, said the expansion demonstrated the success of the initial phase.

"FedEx is focussed on enhancing our services to small and medium sized customers, and our partnership with PETRONAS Dagangan allows us to locate FedEx drop off centres in the very communities where our customers live and work," Ramesh said.

"The initial phase of the service partnership has proven very popular with customers because the Mesra locations offer greater choice and a discount on FedEx's fast and reliable overnight delivery to Asia, North America and fast delivery to Europe.

"In fact, customers can actually pick up their packages from a particular Mesra convenience store if they choose to, which means that they can balance speed and time definite delivery in ways that suit their business and lifestyles," said Ramesh.

PDB operates an extensive network of over 600 service stations strategically located throughout the country. Since 1996 PDB has incorporated Mesra stores in selected service station outlets for greater convenience to customers. There are currently 150 Mesra stores nationwide which provide one-stop shopping for busy customers.

Apart from the FedEx facility, the Mesra stores also provide services such as ATMs, fast food cafes, bill payment kiosks, photocopy services, toll card reload, mini post offices and pharmacy services.

PDB is the largest marketer of petroleum products in Malaysia. As the retail and marketing arm of PERTONAS, it markets a wide range of high quality refined petroleum products including motor gasoline, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), lubricants, kerosene, fuel oil, aviation fuel, bunker fuels, natural gas for vehicles (NGV) and asphalt.

With annual revenues of $21 billion, FedEx Corp. is the premier global provider of transportation, e-commerce and supply chain management services.
