2006 Press Releases
Purpose-built facility to match fast and reliable international delivery with customer growth
Brisbane, February 15, 2006 - FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world's largest express transportation company, joined with the Brisbane Airports Corporation to break ground at the site of their newest facility.
When completed this year, the new purpose-built facility, located at the Brisbane Airport, will be over double the size of the current facility in Herston, allow the company to grow at a faster rate, and will provide customers with later pick-up cut-off times for delivery across the FedEx global network.
"This new facility has been designed specifically for our operations in Queensland, providing the infrastructure to allow us to easily receive and send shipments, work with the various government agencies to facilitate customs clearance, and get the packages onto a van and out to the customer as soon as possible," said Mr. David J. Ross, Vice President for FedEx Express South Pacific.
"FedEx is proud to support Australia's global trade, enabling Australian businesses to quickly and reliably source their goods from international markets, and to express deliver their products to the rest of the world" continued Mr. Ross.
"The Brisbane Airport offers a significant strategic advantage for FedEx, and is a testament to the ability for both Queensland and the BAC to attract new investment to the state" said Koen Rooijmans, Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) Managing Director and CEO.
"FedEx will benefit from investments of up to $1.5 billion over the next 7 years, to ensure BAC continues to deliver the world's best airports, and deliver outstanding airport services." Continued Mr. Rooijmans
The facility's proximity to the Gateway motorway will also give the company faster access to Brisbane's central business district and surrounding areas, including the key manufacturing centers, providing a guaranteed delivery and cut-off time commitment.
