BEIJING, January 31, 2000 - Federal Express Corporation (FedEx),
the world's largest express transportation company, was given top
honors as E-courier at a ceremony held recently at the Singapore
eAwards 2000.
FedEx was recognized as one of the five top e-commerce businesses
in Singapore based on its innovation in adopting e-commerce and
the development of tools to assist companies of all sizes in embracing
e-commerce.
Receiving the award on behalf of FedEx was Rajesh Subramaniam,
Vice President for Electronic Commerce and Customer Service, FedEx
Asia Pacific. "The eAwards is a great initiative that will go a
long way to encourage companies in Singapore to innovate and adopt
e-commerce as part of their core business initiative. This is important
for them to compete in the digital economy," said Mr. Subramaniam.
"For FedEx, winning this award reflects the dedication and enthusiasm
of our employees, and our company's culture for innovation. It also
underscores our commitment to become a one-stop integrated solutions
provider for businesses in Asia Pacific. With the combined power
of our air, ground and information technology networks, we are in
a very strong position to assist companies looking for integrated
solutions," said Mr. Subramaniam.
"The e-courier title in the eAwards highlights a crucial aspect
of both business to business and business to consumer e-commerce,
that is e-fulfillment. When a manufacturer clicks onto the Web to
order a product, it is critical to have in place a physical infrastructure
of warehouses, planes and trucks in order to fulfill the order delivery
efficiently, particularly for time-sensitive, high value items,"
continued Mr. Subramaniam. "The challenge has become that of getting
the product to market as reliably as possible," said Mr. Subramaniam.
The eAwards, organized by eCommerce consortiums ec.Think and CommerceNet
Singapore (CNSG), aims to spotlight organizations which have successfully
embraced e-commerce to their business advantage. "FedEx has been
a key e-commerce player in its industry and the panel recognizes
their e-commerce innovation and leadership. Its leadership has helped
to promote e-commerce among local companies," said Mr. Willie Cheng,
Country Managing Partner, Andersen Consulting and Chairman of ec.Think.
