FedEx Teeing Off to Greater Heights

FedEx is committed to the development of sports in the region

SINGAPORE, February 23, 2001 - Federal Express (FedEx) has extended its support of golf with the recent sponsorship of two major tournaments in the Asia Pacific region.

FedEx is well-known for its sponsorship of top sporting events such as the FedEx St Jude Classic and National Football League in the United States.

And with its recent commitment to the sponsorship of Singapore Masters and Malaysian Open, both over a three-year term, FedEx has signaled its strong support for the development of sports across Asia.

"We are delighted to work with the Asian PGA again to contribute to the development of golf in the region. For over 25 years, FedEx has leveraged qualities like speed, teamwork, and precision in building the largest express transportation company in the world. These same qualities are prominent in our sports sponsorships, making the relationships a complimentary fit," said Mr. Michael Heldebrandt, Managing Director, Marketing of FedEx South Pacific.

The Caltex Singapore Masters kicked off today at the Singapore Island Country Club. Among its stellar lineup of players are former US Masters champion, Vijay Singh of Fiji and seven-time European Tour number one, Colin Montgomerie of Scotland. The tournament is the first in Singapore to be co-sanctioned by the European and Davidoff Tours. The finals will be played on February 25.

The Carlsberg Malaysian Open, held a week ago from February 15 to 18 at the Saujana Golf and Country Club, saw strong competition from Vijay Singh, New Zealand's Michael Campbell and big-hitting American John Daly. Vijay Singh walked away with the championship title, after impressing the crowd with his superb play. He will be trying to score a similar feat in Singapore. FedEx was the title sponsor of the FedEx PGA Championship held at Singapore's Raffles Country Club in 1998.

As with the sponsorship then, FedEx will seize the opportunity to contribute to the community at the Caltex Singapore Masters. Through the sale of FedEx premiums at the exhibition marquee, FedEx is expecting to raise up to $10,000. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to Gracehaven, FedEx's nominated charity.

FedEx Express, a $15 billion subsidiary of FedEx Corp., connects areas that generate 90% of the world's gross domestic product in 24-48 hours with door-to-door, customs-cleared service and a money-back guarantee*.
