Press Releases
Hong Kong, April 6, 2001 - FedEx Express Corporation (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, announced today that it would substantially improve its express pick-up and delivery service in the mainland to better serve importers and exporters.
Plans are underway to build China's biggest express handling center at Shanghai's Pudong International Airport. FedEx has also established four new express handling facilities in Hangzhou, Nangjing, Ningbo and Dongguan, to provide local customers with faster and more reliable services.
"The express segment in Asia continues to grow faster than other regions in the world," said David Cunningham, President of FedEx's Asia Pacific Division. "This region, in particular China, has huge potential. As a result, we continue to invest wisely in this country to provide the same reliable and extensive door-to-door pick-up and delivery service that FedEx is known for around the world."
In addition, FedEx will add an additional frequency to Shanghai this month, following the recent decision by the Department of Transportation. The new flight schedule will enable FedEx's customers in Shanghai and neighboring cities, to have more frequent access to the United States and other destinations in the world. FedEx will extend its cut-off time by as much as 3 hours in Eastern China. In addition, additional cities including Nanjing, Wuxi, and Changzhou will be served through the AsiaOne network. Currently FedEx has 11 frequencies to China, serving 190 cities through three gateways: Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
"We have the highest number of dedicated flights to China of any international air express company, and we are way ahead of our competitors in terms of time and investment in China. We believe that these new enhancement plans will greatly increase the speed, reliability, ease of access, and quality of service for our customers throughout China," Mr. Cunningham added.
FedEx Express, a $15 billion subsidiary of FedEx Corp., connects areas that generate 90% of the world's gross domestic product in 24-48 hours with door-to-door, customs-cleared service. The company's unmatched air route authorities and infrastructure make it the world's largest express transportation company, providing fast, reliable and time-definite transportation of more than 3.3 million items to 211 countries each working day. FedEx employs approximately 148,000 employees and has more than 46,000 drop-off locations, 662 aircraft and 45,500 vehicles in its integrated global network.
