Federal Express Prepares for Heart to Heart's First Medical Airlift to China

Approximately 50 tons of pharmaceutical supplies being staged at FedEx Asia Pacific hub in the Philippines

Hong Kong, April 11, 1997 - Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, and Heart to Heart International, a Kansas- based registered medical relief organization, are jointly organizing their first humanitarian airlift to the People's Republic of China on April 14, 1997. Through this mission, approximately 50 tons of pharmaceutical supplies and relief products will be delivered to nine recipient organization in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

In preparation for this goodwill airlift, all relief supplies are being gathered and staged at the FedEx Asia Pacific Hub located in Subic Bay, the Philippines. The picture here shows part of the medical goods from pharmaceutical and medical sponsors. On April 14, 1997, these supplies will be loaded on to a FedEx DC-10 aircraft and transported directly to Chengdu.

FedEx currently services the Asia Pacific market with approximately 4,100 employees serving more than 30 countries and territories. The company provides the most extensive trans-Pacific air lift of any major competitor. Operating its own wide- bodied MD-11, DC-10 and A310 aircraft, FedEx offers over 160 flights per week to Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Taipei, Seoul, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Manila and Subic Bay.
