Press Releases
Bangkok, May 14, 2001 - Federal Express (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, has announced the opening of a new service center in Lumphun, near the Export Processing Zone (EPZ), and a new drop off location in Chiang Mai's Night Bazaar. This marks yet another significant milestone in FedEx's operations and long-term commitment to Thailand.
Situated 40 minutes from the Chiang Mai International Airport, the 170-square meter Lumphun station provides FedEx's customers in the area, notably the EPZ industries, with efficient services and more flexibility: on-site custom agent for faster customs service, later cut-off time to 16:00 (instead of 14:00) and earlier delivery time in the morning. Customers can either drop off their shipments directly at the station, or in case of heavyweight shipments, request for pick up using FedEx's one-ton trucks.
In Chiang Mai, FedEx has been operating a service center in the city since September 1999. Located 15 minutes away from the airport, the 300-square meter facility offers its customers a 12 pm cut off time. Shipments are then transported to Bangkok on the same day for easy connection to their final destinations worldwide via FedEx's Asia One network and regional hub in Subic Bay (Philippines).
In addition, FedEx has just opened a new drop off location at the Peak Rock Climbing Plaza, right in the heart of the Night Bazaar. Operating from 19:00-22:30 every night, this convenient FedEx counter enables both local shops and tourists to send their goods and purchases without wasting time. Shipments are sent to Bangkok the following day.
"There is a real need for air express services in Northern Thailand, considering the large number of industries, and the small and medium-size companies; not to mention foreign tourists attracted by the wealth and diversity of locally-made products. Our new locations in Lumphun and in Chiang Mai's Night Bazaar allow us to extend our services to all of them," said Mr. Rhicke Jennings, FedEx Managing Director for Thailand, Indochina and the Philippines.
"These new facilities are part of our company's efforts to support Northern Thailand as an industrial and manufacturing center. We now provide the region with a direct link to our FedEx global network," added Mr. Jennings.
The three FedEx locations in the North complement four other FedEx service centers in Bangkok -Bangna, Laksi, Rama IV and Don Muang International Airport.
FedEx Express, a $15 billion subsidiary of FedEx Corp., connects areas that generate 90% of the world's gross domestic product in 24-48 hours with door-to-door, customs-cleared service and a money-back guarantee. The company's unmatched air route authorities and infrastructure make it the world's largest express transportation company, providing fast, reliable and time-definite transportation of more than 3.3 million items to 211 countries each working day. FedEx employs approximately 149,000 employees and has more than 46,000 drop-off locations, 663 aircraft and 49,000 vehicles in its integrated global network.
