FedEx - DTW Supports Special Olympics Millennium March 2000

More than 120 FedEx - DTW employees joined the Torch Run

BEIJING, May 25, 2000 - FedEx - DTW Co. Ltd. has recently donated 500,000 yuan to support the Special Olympics Millennium March 2000 in China.

The Special Olympics Millennium March 2000 is a joint effort by Special Olympics International and Special Olympics China (SOC) to promote awareness and raise funds for SOC sports programs.

The program kicked off last Saturday on the Great Wall of China. More than 120 FedEx - DTW employees joined Arnold Schwarzenegger and hundreds of mentally-handicapped people from across China in a torch run along the section of the precarious Juyong Pass of the Wall in northern Beijing.

"FedEx is very pleased to be part of this effort. We believe these contributions will help SOC in their efforts to promote sports programs in China. This contribution is a way for FedEx to support the local community," said Eddy Chan, Regional Vice President, China & Mid Pacific of Federal Express Corporation.

FedEx remains an active participant in philanthropic projects in China. Over the last three years FedEx has, in cooperation with domestic and overseas organizations, airlifted medical supplies, earthquake and flood relief supplies as well as other kinds of goods to many parts of China.

"This is the first opportunity to demonstrate our care and commitment for the community since the establishment of the FedEx - DTW joint venture," said Wilson Chung, General Manager, FedEx - DTW Co. Ltd. "Our employees in China are enthusiastic about the Millennium March. We are very proud of our employees. Not only have they contributed, but they have also spent much time to help implement the program".

In addition to the Torch Run, there was also an Arnold Schwarzenegger film festival, a gala dinner, a celebrity auction and a fitness demonstration. Money raised goes to the SOC.

Founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in the US 30 years ago, the Special Olympics is an international program of year-round sports training and athletic competition for more than one million children and adults with mental retardation.

SOC was founded in 1985 to provide year-round sports training to more than 25,000 athletes, supported by over 1,000 coaches and volunteers. There are an estimated 15 to 20 million individuals with mental handicaps in China.
