FedEx to Reinforce Operations in Chubu Region

NAGOYA, June 15, 2000 - Federal Express Corporation, the world's largest express transportation company, today announced that it has relocated its Nagoya station, significantly expanding the operation's facilities. The relocation further enhances service systems for FedEx customers in the Chubu region, and is the first step toward FedEx's goal of reinforcing its business in the Chubu region in the mid- to long-term future.

FedEx moved its office at the end of May from Higashi-ku to Atsuta-ku, Nagoya, where the company has opened its own station facilities. The new facility is three times as large as the previous one. It is also incorporated to form a new "super" station where package inventory management, packing, picking and forwarding are handled continuously and seamlessly.

FedEx aims to expand its business in the Chubu region, and the establishment of the new office and distribution station serves as a first step in that direction. Through the full utilization of EDC functions, FedEx's customers can expect enhanced efficiency through more efficient logistics systems.

David J. Ross, vice president of the North Pacific Region for FedEx, emphasizes the importance of FedEx's strategy as: "The Chubu region has developed to become one of the leading industrialized areas in Japan. For the opening of the The 2005 International Exposition, Aichi, Japan, and a new International Airport, this region would make rapid progress as the center of industries that is directly connected to the world. On the other hand, FedEx has achieved outstanding results by providing customers with logistic solutions for supply chain management worldwide. I hope that the new station would reflect these results, and strongly support the globalization of customers in the Chubu region."
