FedEx and Epson Deliver Charity

TAIPEI, August 2, 2001--FedEx and EPSON Taiwan are working together for the first time to provide information technology as charity for assisting in education development. FedEx is delivering 5,000 EPSON color printers (EPSON Stylus Color 580) donated by EPSON Taiwan to schools on offshore islands and in remote areas of Taiwan. During a joint press conference hosted by Minister Ovid Tseng of the Ministry of Education on August 2, the printer was given by Mr. Middle Lin, General Manager of Epson, Imaging and Information Solutions, Business Group to FedEx's goodwill ambassador who then donated the printer to Minister Ovid Tseng. Finally, the school principal and a student from Jigi elementary school attended as representatives and received the printer from Minister Ovid Tseng. FedEx is scheduled to finish delivery within one week. Through the donation, it has proven that FedEx not only delivers packages, but is also a caring corporate citizen demonstrating commitment to the island through these acts of charity.

Following the donation of 1,000 small FedEx QQ aircraft in June, FedEx is honored to contribute this charity work. Since printers are needed by all the high schools and elementary schools in Taiwan, including schools on offshore islands and in remote areas, speedily delivering 5,000 Epson color printers (Epson Stylus Color 580) to each school became an important mission.

FedEx undertook this deliver mission without any hesitation. Through its integrated express solutions including both air-and-sea transportation, FedEx's more than 800 employees in Taiwan were all very proud to be part of this charity act. With its time-definite express service, FedEx will deliver the donated printers to 25 receiving centers in the shortest time as possible. Jimmy Chen, Managing Director of FedEx Taiwan stated that "FedEx will cooperate with Epson Taiwan to accomplish this mission, delivering our love and compassion to those students from junior and senior high schools."

"Our employees are excited by this news! They all believe in FedEx's commitment to Taiwan demonstrated through the charitable act and are proud to work for an organization that provides the best service in the shortest time. By means of FedEx's goodwill ambassador, the heart felt interaction between the charity giver and the receiver will be shown. Many FedEx employees wanted to volunteer their weekend to complete this charitable mission by delivering these gifts to offshore islands and remote areas of Taiwan. It is expected that most of the receiving centers will take delivery of those donated printers today and the delivery service to the offshore islands and remote areas of Taiwan will be completed this weekend." said Mr. Jimmy Chen, Managing Director of FedEx Taiwan at the donation press conference.

FedEx and Epson are both reputable corporations in the U.S. and Japan. They both also use the advantage of their corporate resources to benefit the Taiwan community. Mr. Mark Chiu, Corporate General Manager, President Office, Epson, indicated that this charity not only alleviated the deficiency of teaching materials, serving to push forward the process of continuous information technology education in Taiwan, but also served as an example for other corporations to emulate in supporting Taiwan educational programs.

FedEx once again emphasized that the development of Taiwan educational system will never end. FedEx and Epson have shown their caring for education through this meaningful act of charity and hope that their willingness to give back to society will contribute to creating lasting progress for the island's young people, as well as the needy.
