Press Releases
TOKYO, August 4, 2000- FedEx Express, the world's largest
express transportation company, extended its package cut-off
time to 4 P.M. in "Saitama New Urban Center," the new central
Saitama area including Urawa, Omiya and Yono, and its suburban
area including Kawaguchi, Hatogaya and Warabi. The goal is
to meet customer's increasing shipping demand in the area.
The new cut-off time has been effective from August 1. Customers
in the area, subject to the change can call FedEx customer
service 0120-003200 with a pickup request before 4 P.M. Packages
will be loaded onto a same-day flight, making deliveries
to major Asian cities the next day and deliveries to major
U.S. cities by 10:30 A.M. the next morning local time. Cut-off
time had been 2:30 P.M. for Omiya, Yono, and Urawa, and 3:00
P.M. for Kawaguchi, Warabi, and Hatogaya. With the extension
in cut-off times, customers in these areas will have an extra
hour to an hour and a half to ship packages.
Compared to the national average, Saitama prefecture has
a higher percentage of leading-edge industries*. Particularly
in recent years, Saitama has had strong growth in high value-added
products such as data communication equipment, electronic
goods, medical supplies, and electronic calculators. Reflecting
this development, the need for express delivery has mainly
grown from these high value-added products. The extension
in the pickup time is in response to the needs of these customers.
