Kuala Lumpar, MALAYSIA, August 30, 2001 -- FedEx Express, the world's largest express delivery company, celebrated eight years in Malaysia and the launch of its AsiaOne promotion with a donation of RM 8,888.00 to Rumah Charis, a home for children and the aged, recently.
FedEx Express Malaysia Managing Director, Mr Ramesh Kumar Singam, and FedEx Express South Pacific Managing Director Marketing, Mr Michael Heldebrandt, presented the cheque to Rumar Charis Manager, Mr Kuar Tiam Chai, at a special eight-year anniversary dinner held in KL.
The money will be used to help build the new 'Charis Home for the Children' project in Cheras. The four-and-a-half storey home, to be completed in three years, will include male and female dormitories, an administration office, a study area and a library.
Established in 1993, Rumah Charis provides essential care and assistance to the destitute and the poor elderly and children. Currently there are 17 elderly residents, aged between 65 years to 95 years and 27 children between 5 years to 17 years, residing at Rumah Charis.
FedEx Express Malaysia Managing Director, Mr Ramesh Kumar Singam, said the donation was a way for FedEx to say 'thank-you' to Malaysia for the enormous success enjoyed by the company since operations began in August 1993.
"Malaysians have given FedEx Express enormous support over the last eight years, to the point where today we are the clear leader in air-express delivery here, so this donation to Rumah Charis is a way for FedEx to say 'thank-you'," Mr Kumar Singam said.
