New cargo facility for FedEx at Auckland Airport

AUCKLAND, September 10, 2001 - Federal Express Corp. (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, has unveiled its expansion of facilities within the Auckland International Airport complex. This represents the second purpose built facility for FedEx in the Australasian region, following the opening of the company's Melbourne office and warehouse facility.

Constructed adjacent to FedEx's existing Auckland premises in the Airport Freight Centre, the new facility greatly increases the company's warehousing capacity.

Peter Yin, Regional Vice President for FedEx South Pacific, said it was simply a case of outgrowing the existing facility.

"The old complex, built in 1991, was well suited to our initial requirements," said Mr Yin, "but with the growth we have experienced in the New Zealand market, it became stretched to its warehouse capacity limits."

The new facility comprises 787 square metres of office space and 1,622 square metres of warehousing. The move also allows FedEx to upgrade its level of automation with the installation of PC Select and the warehouse is capable of supporting a 20-vehicle line up.

FedEx has leased the facility from the Auckland International Airport Company.
