Press Releases
Hong Kong, September 28, 1999 - Federal Express Corporation (FedEx)
yesterday delivered 339 cartons of earthquake-relief supplies to
Taiwan for The Hong Kong Red Cross, in an effort to provide help
to the victims in Taiwan.
"We express our deepest sympathy for those who are affected by
the terrible earthquake. FedEx is pleased to offer the use of our
planes for humanitarian efforts," said Peter Yin, Vice President
of Marketing and Communications, FedEx's Asia Pacific Division.
"We would like to and are ready to offer our help further if needed".
Working with The Hong Kong Red Cross, FedEx airlifted over 4,000
kilograms of relief goods to Taiwan from Hong Kong on September
27. The airlift included 319 cartons of sleeping bags, 4 cartons
of generators and 16 cartons of flashlights.
FedEx has also been actively offering assistance and support to
the Taiwanese government. Since September 22, FedEx Taiwan has temporarily
allocated its Taichung station for the public to donate relief supplies
to the affected areas and helped in delivering the supplies to the
Taichung Hsien Rescue Center. During the first two days of the rescue
effort, FedEx provided 10 vehicles to transport the relief supplies
to the rescue center and 14 truckloads of supplies were delivered
from Taipei to central Taiwan. In addition, about 40 vehicles were
provided and more than 60 FedEx Taiwan employees volunteered to
help in the critical supplies delivery during the Mid-Autumn Festival
holidays.
