Press Releases
HONG KONG, November 22, 2000 - Federal Express Corp. (FedEx
Express), the world's largest express transportation company,
welcomed the announcement by the US Department of Transportation
(DOT) yesterday that it had awarded the air express leader
one new flight per week to China. Thanks to this decision,
FedEx customers will gain more frequent access to and from
the China and U.S. markets.
FedEx Express has been meeting and exceeding customer demands
in China since 1984. Together with our joint-venture partner,
DaTian W. Air Services Ltd., FedEx has been providing Chinese
customers with the highest quality of service. FedEx Express
already has the latest departure times on the mainland and
the most comprehensive geographical coverage - currently
190 cities with plans to add another 100 over five years.
The company's 10 flights per week, from Beijing, Shanghai
and Shenzhen connects China's expanding economy with the
global FedEx Express network via its AsiaOne, EuroOne and
USOne systems. The global network connects 210 countries
and delivers the most reliable 24-48 hour express delivery
service.
The DOT also announced nine other new weekly frequencies
for the Chinese mainland to meet with increasing demand for
air traffic.
"The new flights underline the growing importance of trade
between China and the U.S., and we are ready to use our new
frequency to deliver improved services to our customers on
the mainland," said David L. Cunningham, President, Asia
Pacific Division. "Our aim has always been to provide the
fastest, most reliable, time definite air express service.
The addition of the new flight will only enhance this service.
"Together with the normalization of trade relations between
the U.S. and China and the impending accession of China into
the WTO, the real winners are the Chinese and U.S. importers
and exporters and the air express industry.
"FedEx has a long and well-established history in China,
utilizing its own dedicated aircraft and express delivery
network. We have the highest number of dedicated flights
to China of any international air express company. We are
way ahead of our competitors in terms of time and investment
in China. With the new additional flight, our service in
China can only get better," Mr. Cunningham said.
